How a holistic approach helps in self-improvement

When we think about self-improvement, we often focus on the one area of our life that gives us the biggest problem. Finances, weight and relationships seem to be at the top of the list for many people. While focusing on problem areas with the goal of solving them is certainly useful and far better than doing nothing, in the long run we will all achieve more in the way of personal development if we take a holistic approach.

A holistic approach to self-improvement is about helping people achieve balance. It raises questions: Can a person who is considered successful in business or career really be successful if their inner life is in disarray? Is anyone really successful if they have failed their children? Is it possible to be really successful and at the same time be unaware of the global effects of your attitudes and actions? Can you really be successful if you suffer from poor physical and mental health? By asking such challenging questions, it leads us to evaluate areas of our lives that we might otherwise ignore. They encourage us to consider, not only our own lives, but also the impact our lives have on those around us, the wider community, and even globally. Holistic self-improvement is about achieving balance while improving all areas of our lives in such a way that in the process we benefit others, not harm.

The planet is struggling under the burden of pollution and the effects of unfettered industrialization. In the past, the powerful have stifled or hijacked debate on climate change, dying rivers, soil salinization and the need to change our energy sources and work methods. However, there is no doubt that these very people were considered very successful individuals who could also be philanthropists with their wealth. According to the holistic model of self-improvement, such people would not be considered truly successful. In their pursuit of profit, they have created major problems that endanger the future of this planet, and thus our own survival. Holistic self-improvement practices are an attempt to bring balance, health, happiness and true success into the world, changing one person at a time.
