Planning for future retirement

Last year I thought a lot about retirement. I will actually be eligible for Social Security in 4 months when I turn 62. But this will not happen! I have a good job and my needs are met, but if I don’t work, I simply won’t have enough money to continue the lifestyle I live now, however modest it may be. I have a retirement fund that I can tap into in addition to Social Security, however that fund is deteriorating monthly, no, daily.

I hoped that the new president’s mandate for change would stimulate the stock market. This did not happen. In fact, the opposite is true. Since Mr Obama was sworn in on January 20, the Dow Jones industrial average has fallen to a 10-year low. I still hope it will happen, but I don’t want to sit back and wait for politicians to fix what they broke. As long as politics are involved, business (or lack thereof) will be business as usual.

My daughter-in-law knows how to buy items that are in high demand and sell them profitably on e-bay. She is very good during the Christmas season. Knowing that e-bay could be profitable, I began to study Internet marketing. I have found that there are several companies that will provide point of sale training and resources. It was kind of attractive because I don’t really want to spend a lot of time and energy on inventory – to make sure I have the product and make the right assumptions about what products I have to work with. With dropshipping, that part is taken care of for you. If the product is not profitable, you promote something else. I know there are people whose main source of income is this way. I was seriously considering it when I came across an alternative.

What I discovered in my research is another type of Internet marketing called affiliate marketing. The concept behind affiliate marketing is that you become a product promoter through internet marketing tools. There are vendors who are willing to share a portion of the sale with those who are willing to promote and sell the product. It is beneficial for both parties. The vendor is cutting back on advertising because people like you and me are promoting their products for them. It also increases sales because there are so many affiliate marketers promoting the product in different areas. I have continued my research and I really like the concept. I would encourage you to consider the idea of affiliate marketing. As with most companies, there are those who make money at the expense of others, so make sure you do your due diligence before investing your money in a program that seems great. Wealthy Affliates is one training program that comes highly recommended all over the internet, which is why I signed up with them. You don’t have to mortgage the family farm to participate, and if you find it’s not for you, you can leave at any time. If you are interested, you can follow my link below to check them out a little closer.

I hope you have a comfortable retirement!
