Successful goal setting in 7 simple steps

If you’ve been striving for something and haven’t achieved it yet, you need to do something different

Getting what you want often seems like finding the best way out of a complicated maze.

You know where you are now and where you want to get to, but the area in between is shrouded in mystery and maybe even fear.

Sure, you can ask someone else to show you the way, but you’ll likely get much better results if you develop your own focused, targeted, and personalized map to get you where you want to go.

Here are the seven steps you need to follow to do this:

1: Set a goal

Every goal you set should include information such as what you specifically want to achieve, by when, with whom and why you want to achieve it.

2: Smash it

Every big goal is made up of smaller parts. These steps can be specific parts of a larger goal or measured points on the way to achieving it.

3: Define clear action steps

You need to think about the steps that will lead you to your goal.

Daily actions are usually smaller in scope, but they are things that become your regular habits.

Weekly actions can be larger and take longer to complete – and can involve an element of risk. This can include things like launching a new service or launching a new marketing activity. These bolder actions usually bring greater results.

Monthly actions keep you on track by assessing your progress and readjusting your plans if necessary.

4: Set a general timeline for completion

While setting a deadline can be incredibly motivating and keep you focused, it can also cause tremendous frustration if things don’t move at the pace you expect. So you need to set a deadline that is achievable.

5: Develop a ‘Plan B’

As much as we want things to go according to plan, they don’t always turn out that way. So having a ‘Plan B’ for every step of your journey can save a lot of time, not to mention frustration! Imagine the difference between feeling immobilized because your path is blocked or calmly shifting gears and switching to plan B. This can affect or prevent you from accomplishing your goals.

6: Create the right mindset for success

By now you should have a clear, detailed plan to achieve your goal. How could you fail with a plan like this? You couldn’t. . . unless your own thoughts start working against you. There are three key things to keep in mind if you want to stay focused and motivated.

Commit to your goal: You have to be willing to keep working towards what you want no matter how difficult it may seem at times.

Take Action: The most detailed and effective plan is worthless if you never put it into action.

Let go: Don’t wallow in frustration over things you can’t control. Focus on what you can control, which is your own actions.

7: Evaluate your progress

Evaluation can help you stay honest about your efforts, reveal gaps in your plans, and encourage you to keep going when you notice even moderate results.

When you follow these steps, it becomes much easier to achieve your goals, no matter how ambitious they are.

You’ll know how to conquer your inner demons (like fear and confusion), face challenges head-on, and move quickly and precisely toward your chosen outcome.

You will realize that your quality of life is completely under your control and that you only need to follow a certain route to reach your desired destination.

Then you just need to follow the same process next time and repeat it every time!
